Can anything worthwhile be accomplished?? Civil disobedience can turn the tide, if the sane of us band together. Little things like boycotts make some waves, but a common cause needs to hold us together, we can pull each other along. The opponents of equal rights are toothless sharks. We can do it if we keep our eyes focused on the shore together.

While no employer should be subject to frivilous lawsuits. ENDA ensures that employees are judged on productivity and capacity to carry out the work assignment. Judges all of us for our abilities in the workforce not our private life and personal relational choices and proclivities. ENDA is a justified responses to unjust actions on the part of employers.

I'd say the opponents of same-sex marriage are worse than the slave owners of the 19th and 19th centuries. They are the KKK of the 1950s and '60s. They are the "Tea Party."

The OPPONENTS of same - sex marriage should be treated as second - class citizens. They are un - American and are against progress. They are just as bad as the slave - owners of the 18th century.

David Zornetsky:

It is so frustrating that the majority of the people of Maine are against the Constitution, which provides equality for ALL. We could have allowed same – sex marriage in that state (and all states) long ago, because there is no such thing as “not being ready” for change. For example, European countries have abolished the death penalty despite public opposition to doing so, and nothing bad happened. There were no civil wars or widespread violence. There were no economic recessions. If THEY can go against public
opinion in favor of doing what is right, then so can WE! THAT is why change can happen at ANY time – because society will get used to it in good time. FIRST allow equality of marriage (and ENDA, DOMA, etc.), THEN let the public come to accept it.

@Anon: The power of this tool is that we all have a part in keeping it up to date, and for calling and visiting our representatives to move folks towards more equality positions. It's GREAT when folks like you keep up on who is saying what - if you have more up to date information than is posted in the website, then by all means "edit" the whip count! The power is yours!

Yes the widgets update automatically as soon as someone changes the "position" of the legislator on the detail page. Even then, however, the number of co-sponsors will not match some published numbers of "cosponsors" since we do not count cosponsors who cannot vote, as for example the Representative from the District of Columbia.

@Daneil: Sorry to hear about your situation: Lack of employment protection is a very big deal, and telling our personal stories is crucial in passing ENDA and winning full civil rights for LGBT Americans. Thank you for sharing yours with Rep. Buyer. Don't forget to report back on the whip count so we can all stay abreast and encourage others to do the same...

Oct. 24, 2009
I am a constituent of Steve Buyer's District. I will contact him this week. Last year I lost a job because the owner became aware of my bi=sexuality. I was told he felt I had a personality problem. Indiana is an at will employment State, there is no protection for anyone, but I will encourage Rep. Buyer to vote in favor of ENDA.
