Wanted to share with you a posting from Act On Principles Champion Lane Hudson regarding the DC Bus ad controversy previously posted on this site. He references the Dallas Principles in his comment.
I would refer everyone involved to the Full Civil Rights Goals of The Dallas Principles, which in part state, “Every lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender person has inherent dignity and worth, and has the right to live free of discrimination and harassment.”
The goals further state that economic freedom for LGBT people includes being free from discrimination in public facilities. Those buses are public facilities. They are our buses, too, and allowing them to carry discriminatory advertisements targeted at us is no different than Rosa Parks being relegated to the back of the bus.
Our community needs to stand up for ourselves being treated like every other minority that has been through a struggle for full equality. Until we do, we fail ourselves and those who will follow us.
