BLOG for equality now

Adopt a Member

Since I live in the District of Columbia and have no voting representation in Congress, I’ve decided to “adopt” a member of Congress, in this case, Zack Space from Ohio. Both my partner and I have family in his District, so I’m going to work with them to lobby him. Space is listed as having an unkown position on DADT repeal so I’m going to start there.

It seems to me that those of us who live in large metro areas where our elected officials are likely with us could use a similiar strategy. “Adopt” a Member of Congress from where your family is. Mobilize the most supportive members of your family to grassroots lobby and help them do it.

Come on, Mom…you want full equality for your son/daugther…right?

This is a great idea – we’re talking about it here too in NY. If our delegation is all “co-sponsors” – what can we do – sister -state to sister state – etc. We’re also thinking about asking our Congress people – to adopt a congress person in another state. Let’s keep this idea alive – and build on it. Bravo. I’m thinking of how to do a “family” action agenda – along these lines. xoTif
