Equality Across America is a network of community-based organizations across the country who are working for full equality. We want to know what’s going on in your community, and we want to support you. We want to know about the work you’re doing in your Congressional District. Whether you’re part of an established organization, or you’re a group of five friends who are trying to get something started, we’re excited to hear your stories and to find out how we can support you. If you are already organizing, please click here to let us know about your group. Here are a few things you can work on locally to get started: 2. Organize within your Congressional District for the National Equality March. 3. Meet with your US Representative in her/his local office. 4. Start a Facebook Group for your Congressional District. http://equalityacrossamerica.org/organize
From Textbooks4Change… Textbooks4Change is a student-led organization enabling you to raise money for marriage equality in California. How does it work? You click a button at Textbooks4Change.com to buy textbooks (or anything else!) on Amazon.com, and approximately 7% of your purchase goes towards repealing Prop 8. All of the money raised goes to the Courage Campaign, a leader in California’s battle for marriage equality. You can help a great cause without paying a penny more than what you’d already spend.
From Equality California… The campaign to win marriage back will take us all, working together to restore the freedom to marry for same-sex couples. The critical grassroots work of talking to voters in the field and telling our stories needs to happen now. Win Marriage Back: Make it Real! is a coordinated, grassroots and media effort to build support for the freedom to marry at the local level and over the airwaves. Together, we will introduce ourselves to the people of California, winning their hearts and minds and ensuring that we win marriage back once and for all. Our goals are ambitious so we need your help! Do your part, get involved: In the first 100 days of the campaign: http://www.eqca.org/site/pp.asp?c=kuLRJ9MRKrH&b=4815401
On May 6, 2009 Maine ended discrimination in marriage for same-sex couples. This victory was the result of thousands of people who came forward to support marriage for all Maine families. The legislature and Governor followed the people’s lead and passed this landmark legislation. But the fight is not over. Opponents of marriage equality want to turn back the clock. They are working to place a measure on the ballot – modeled after California’s Prop 8 – to take away the right of same-sex couples to marry in Maine. This November, voters will be asked: “Do you want to reject the new law that lets same-sex couples marry and allows individuals and religious groups to refuse to perform these marriages?” Answer: Vote NO on 1. Please pledge to protect equality with your support for NO on 1. Add your name to the list of thousands who have joined our campaign so far. http://mainefreedomtomarry.com
From Operation DOMA Flip-Flop Presidents have the option refusing to defend a law they view as unconstitutional on its face, of which there is no clearer example than DOMA (Defense Of Marriage Act). President Obama himself has called the law “abhorrent” and he’s a constitutional law professor.
From the Human Rights Campaign…
Well, enough is enough. Our families need protection. Our jobs are in jeopardy simply because of who we are. Our military service members are still being discharged. Even under this Congress and this President. Frankly, we’re tired of the promises. So we’re delivering our demands in person.
From Equality Across America On October 10-11, 2009, we will gather in Washington, D.C. from all across America to let our elected leaders know that now is the time for full equal rights for LGBT people. This is simply a major national strategy to kick start our national grassroots Equality Across America campaign. We will gather. We will strategize. We will march. And we will leave energized and empowered to do the work that needs to be done in every community across the nation. This is only the beginning. http://www.equalityacrossamerica.org
